Best adjustable dumbbells in Malaysia
Updated 10 Oct 2026
Adjustable dumbbells give you a rack's worth of weights in the corner of a room, which is why they are usually the first thing people buy for a home gym in Malaysia. They also come in very different types and prices, and the listings do not always make it easy to compare.
We went through the best-selling and best-rated listings on Shopee, read what buyers said, and narrowed it down to three. Kelly picks for a tight budget; Vivian picks for buying once and training for years.

Spin-lock or dial: which type?
Spin-lock dumbbells are a handle with plates held on by screw collars. They are cheap and nearly indestructible, but changing weight takes a minute or two, and the handle stays long however light you go.
Dial dumbbells sit in a base. You turn a dial, lift, and the handle picks up only the plates you chose. Changing weight takes seconds, which matters when one workout needs several weights. They cost far more, and they are usually sold one at a time.
Convertible sets are spin-lock dumbbells that come with a connector to join them into a short barbell. They are the cheapest way to cover both.
Check these before you buy
- Per dumbbell or per pair. Dial dumbbells are almost always priced for one. Spin-lock sets usually include two.
- Total weight or weight per hand. A "40 kg set" usually means 40 kg across everything in the box, including the handles, so about 20 kg or less per hand.
- The heaviest weight you need. Arms and shoulders need light weights; squats and rows soon need much heavier ones. Buy a range that covers your heaviest exercise, or a set you can add plates to.
- Space and floor. A rubber mat protects tiles and keeps the noise down for the neighbours, which matters in a condo.
- Missing parts. Buyers of cheaper sets often report a missing nut or small plate. Count everything when it arrives and report it to the seller straight away.
Use them safely
Tighten spin-lock collars before every set; they loosen as you train. Put dial dumbbells back in their base fully before changing weight. If you are new to training or have an injury, learn the movements with light weights first, and ask a qualified trainer if you are unsure.
Questions
Are adjustable dumbbells worth it?
For most home gyms, yes. One pair replaces many fixed dumbbells and takes up a fraction of the space. The trade-off is time spent changing weight, which dial dumbbells reduce.
Is a 40 kg set 40 kg each?
Usually not. Most sets quote the total weight in the box. Check the listing's breakdown of plates and handles before you buy.
What weight should a beginner buy?
Many beginners do well with a set that goes up to about 10 kg per hand for upper-body work, with room to add weight for legs. A 20 kg convertible set is a sensible, cheap start.
Why are dial dumbbells so expensive?
They contain a locking mechanism and a base, and they are usually priced per dumbbell. Compare the price of a pair, not the listing price.
How we chose
We checked the best-selling and best-rated adjustable dumbbell listings on Shopee Malaysia on the date shown on each price, and compared their specifications. We summarised buyers' ratings and reviews in our own words. We did not test these products ourselves, and Kelly and Vivian are characters, not reviewers.
Two dial dumbbells we looked at are not listed because their listings did not make clear what the price covered. We will add more picks as we confirm them.
